PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT & HERITAGE

The Morrison Government is trying to push through changes to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act that will hand decision making powers over our environment and heritage to the states.

This Bill ignores the recommendations of a once-in-a-decade review of the EPBC Act, which has called for the introduction of national environmental standards and a genuinely independent 'cop on the beat' to enforce them.

We are calling on the Morrison Government to:

  • Introduce strong national environmental standards for our environment and heritage;
  • Establish a genuinely independent ‘cop on the beat’ for Australia’s environment and heritage; and
  • Fix the 510% explosion in job and investment delays caused by their massive funding cuts.

Australia is facing an extinction crisis and many of our national and world heritage sites are under threat. We need strong federal protections for our environment and heritage.

We therefore ask the House to 1. Introduce strong national environmental standards for our environment and heritage; 2. Establish a genuinely independent ‘cop on the beat’ for Australia’s environment and heritage; and 3. Fix the 510% explosion in job and investment delays caused by environment department funding cuts.
